The Whaleyville community is mourning the loss of Gregory Roth, 79, of Ocean City, Maryland, who passed away following a fatal two-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening near the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and MD Route 610. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and members of the community grieving the loss of a longtime resident whose life and presence were deeply valued by those who knew him.
According to Maryland State Police, troopers responded to the scene shortly before 9:30 p.m. after reports of a serious collision. Investigators reported that Mr. Roth was driving a silver 2010 Nissan Altima northbound on MD Route 610 when the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection of westbound U.S. Route 50. His vehicle was then struck by a black 2014 Ford F-150 traveling westbound.

Emergency personnel arrived quickly and worked at the scene, but Gregory Roth, who was the sole occupant of his vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Ford F-150 was not seriously injured and declined medical treatment.
Following the collision, westbound lanes of U.S. Route 50 were temporarily closed as investigators with Maryland State Police documented the scene, collected evidence, and worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control, while the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration helped manage road closures in the area.
