Authorities in Jefferson County are reporting the arrest of Crystal Veronica Rankin, 43, a substitute teacher previously assigned to Oak Grove High School, in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation involving allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct with a student.
According to jail records and statements from school officials, Rankin has been charged with school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student. Investigators indicated that the alleged incident occurred on May 11, though officials have not released further details as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Law enforcement confirmed that Rankin was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Wednesday at approximately 2:08 p.m. Jail records show she was released roughly 40 minutes later after posting a $30,000 bond related to the felony charge. Authorities have emphasized that additional proceedings will take place as the case moves through the legal system.
At the time of the allegations, Rankin was serving as a substitute teacher at Oak Grove High School. Following the report, Jefferson County Schools officials stated they took immediate action to ensure she would no longer be assigned to any school campus. The district also confirmed it contacted the third-party staffing agency responsible for substitute placement to prevent further assignments.
Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin acknowledged awareness of the allegations and stated that the district is cooperating fully with law enforcement. He emphasized that the primary concern remains the safety and well-being of students and reiterated the importance of following proper investigative procedures.
Officials also noted that the district is limited in what it can disclose due to the ongoing investigation and student privacy protections. They encouraged the public to allow the legal process to proceed without speculation while authorities continue gathering evidence and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the case.
Community members and parents have expressed concern following the news, with many seeking reassurance about school safety protocols and oversight of substitute staffing procedures. School officials have stated that existing safeguards are being reviewed and reinforced where necessary.
Law enforcement has confirmed that the investigation is still active and ongoing. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available through official channels and as the legal process continues.
