Mary Ellen Edmunds, affectionately known as “MEE” or “Melon,” passed away on May 21, 2026, at the age of 86, leaving a profound void in the Latter-day Saint community and the lives of countless individuals she touched. Beloved author, speaker, missionary, and long-time participant in BYU Women’s Conference, Mary Ellen’s life was defined by faith, service, and a warmth that drew people in and inspired them to live with purpose and joy.

A graduate of Brigham Young University with a nursing degree earned in 1962, Mary Ellen dedicated much of her life to helping others. Soon after graduation, she accepted a mission call to the Southern Far East Mission, becoming one of the first sister missionaries assigned to the Philippine Islands. Her experiences abroad shaped a lifelong commitment to missionary work and mentorship, later serving at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, where she guided and inspired thousands of young missionaries preparing for service worldwide.
