Tucson Mall Evacuated Following Threatening Phone Call
TUCSON, Ariz. — Park Place Mall in Tucson was evacuated on Friday, June 5, after authorities received a threatening phone call at approximately 4 p.m. Officials ordered the full evacuation as a precaution while investigators assessed the credibility of the threat.
The Tucson Police Department confirmed that no injuries have been reported and no suspects have been identified. At least nine police units responded to the scene, according to the department’s Real Time Event Tracker. The mall will remain closed until law enforcement deems it safe to reopen.
This incident comes less than four months after a previous shooting at the same mall. On March 18, a confrontation between two groups of teenagers left two people injured, and 18-year-old Rene Anthony Bustamonte was later arrested and charged with discharging a firearm within city limits. Authorities have not indicated any connection between the two events.
Investigations into the latest threat are ongoing, and the Tucson Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward.
